Analysis and Solutions for Inaccurate Circle Cutting in Laser Cutting Machines

2025-02-18

Laser cutting technology has become an indispensable processing tool in the manufacturing industry due to its high precision and efficiency. However, in practical applications, the issue of circles not being cut perfectly round often occurs. Through analysis, it has been found that the phenomenon of inaccurate circle cutting in laser cutting machines is related to various factors, particularly the wear of machine transmission components, improper adjustment of light intensity, hardware issues, and air pressure settings. This article will explore these common problems in detail and provide effective solutions to help users improve laser cutting quality.

Main Causes of Inaccurate Circle Cutting in Laser Cutting Machines

Misalignment of Light Intensity

The cutting effect of a laser cutting machine is closely related to the light intensity. If the light intensity is not properly adjusted, it can result in the last section of the cut not aligning properly with the starting point. This is usually caused by a difference greater than 5% between the maximum and minimum light intensities, or by excessive speed causing frame skipping, leading to deviations in the cutting path.

Solution: Before cutting, ensure that the light intensity is properly adjusted, keeping the difference between the maximum and minimum light intensities within 5%. Additionally, adjust the cutting speed appropriately to avoid frame skipping issues caused by rapid changes in speed.

Hardware Issues: Optical System and Nozzle Inspection

The quality of laser cutting is also influenced by the optical system. If the lenses, mirrors, or nozzles are dirty, damaged, or worn, the laser beam may not focus properly, affecting cutting precision and resulting in inaccurate circular cuts.

Solution: Regularly inspect and clean optical components, including laser lenses and nozzles, to ensure that they are free from dirt or damage, and maintain proper focus of the laser beam.

Inappropriate Air Pressure for Blowout

The air pressure of the blowout system plays a critical role in the cutting quality. If the air pressure is too low, edge slag and carbonization may occur, affecting the cut surface quality. On the other hand, if the air pressure is too high, it can lead to blowouts and damage the workpiece.

Solution: During the blowout test, adjust the air pressure appropriately to ensure stable pressure throughout the cutting process. Increase air pressure if it is too low, and reduce it if it is too high, to achieve the best blowout effect.

Loose Cutting Head and Mechanical Issues

A loose cutting head and mechanical transmission component failures, especially in the reduction gear and rack system, are often the root causes of inaccurate circular cutting. Other issues, such as looseness in the XY axis guide rails, sliding blocks, insufficient rigidity of the servo system, or inadequate lubrication, also directly affect cutting accuracy.

Solution: Regularly inspect the tightening of the cutting head screws and ensure there is no gap between the reduction gear and rack. Lubricate and maintain the XY axis guide rails and sliding blocks to ensure mechanical precision. Additionally, ensure the servo system has adequate rigidity to avoid minute errors during the cutting process.

XY Axis Desynchronization

Synchronization between the XY axes is crucial in laser cutting. If the XY axes are not synchronized, it will directly impact the cutting accuracy and lead to deviations in the circular cut.

Solution: Check the control system to ensure that the XY axes are moving in sync. Make necessary adjustments to the drive system to prevent desynchronization.

Uneven Support Bars and Material Movement

If the material is not securely placed on the support table during the cutting process, or if the support bars are uneven, it can cause the material to shift during cutting, affecting cutting accuracy, especially in circular cutting.

Solution: Ensure that the material is securely fixed on the support bars and that the surface is level to avoid any material movement that could result in cutting deviations.

The issue of inaccurate circle cutting in laser cutting machines is typically caused by hardware issues, improper cutting parameters, unsuitable air pressure, and insufficient mechanical system precision. Users should regularly check all components of the equipment and adjust the parameters based on the material and cutting requirements to ensure optimal cutting performance.
